Philadelphia New Year's Eve 2010 - "Twice the Fireworks, Twice the Fun"
There Will Be TWO Fireworks Shows at Penn's Landing, Rather Than One, This Year
Traditionally, the most prominent event on Philadelphia New Year's Eve, is the free fireworks show at Penn's Landing.
But, for the first time, due to the overwhelming popularity of the fireworks, there actually be double the number of pyrotechnic explosions over the Delaware River, on Philadelphia New Year's Eve 2010.
The first show will be a matinee, so to speak, although it will begin after dark at 6:00 PM. This makes it an ideal choice for families with children, as well as for adults who'd like to catch some fireworks, before heading out for a year-ending taste of Philadelphia nightlife.
The second show is the traditional one at midnight, as fireworks explode over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge - brilliantly illuminated - as 2011 is rung in...
Finally, both Philadelphia New Year's Eve 2010 Fireworks Shows at Penn's Landing are also free of charge.
Philadelphia New Year's Eve Parties On Ice - You Can Skate In The New Year At the Penn's Landing RiverRink, Both Before And After Midnight on December 31
The Penn's Landing RiverRink is once again open for wintertime outdoor ice skating. And you can even skate on New Year's Eve 2010 - while still enjoying the aforementioned fireworks.
Each year, Penn's Landing RiverRink has celebrated its New Year's Eve Party On Ice, from 11:00 PM - 1:00 AM, and has traditionally been a family-oriented, non-alcoholic way to honor the change in the calendar.
And with the advent of "Twice the Fireworks, Twice the Fun" - namely, the aforementioned addition of the second fireworks show, this one at 6:00 PM-
There will now be twice the fun at Penn's Landing RiverRink, with two skating parties, coinciding with the fireworks ablaze in the heavens. The inaugural, first New Year's Eve Party on Ice will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
But it's not just skating and fireworks.
Creative Ways To Watch the Philadelphia New Year’s Eve 2010 Fireworks
The Newly Opened SugarHouse Casino in Fishtown / Northern Liberties Offers A Free View of the Fireworks From Its River Walk, With Moderately Priced Concession Stands, For the Entire Family - You Can Call 877.477.3715 Or 267.232.2000
On September 23, 2010, the SugarHouse Casino opened its doors to the public - the first casino in Philadelphia. It is offering a creative and relatively inexpensive way to watch the 6:00 PM and/or midnight fireworks show at Penn's Landing.
You can drive to its location in Fishtown / Northern Liberties - the exact border between the two is fuzzy - and park in their on-site parking area, which is free, open 24/7, and guarded. You can then enjoy the fireworks show(s) from its river walk, which offers a superb view.
And you can take the entire family to the river walk - there will be moderately priced concessions, hawking hot dogs, hot chocolate, pretzels, and the like. (One important note: the river walk is open to all ages, but you have to be 21 years of age or older to enter SugarHouse Casino, per se.)
Note: Don't bother trying to take SEPTA up there - drive, or take one of the free shuttle buses - known as the "Sugar Express" - that the casino offers to and from Center City.
For all of the above, we highly recommend that you call SugarHouse directly at 877.477.3715, or 267.232.2000, for more information on the casino, the Sugar Express shuttle schedule and stops, the river walk, etc.
The World War II Battleship in Camden, NJ– the USS New Jersey – Offers You the Chance To, As They Put It – “Have A Blast Aboard the Battleship – End 2010 With a Bang!” – 1.866.877.6262
The World War II battleship – the USS New Jersey - offers a unique, dual opportunity to enjoy the two fireworks shows – one involving an overnight stay, the other a pleasant evening on the Delaware River, on the Camden, New Jersey, side of the riverfront.
The first option – the more in-depth experience – gives you the opportunity to ring in 2011, while crashing on the battleship! For $60.95/person, you’ll get dinner and breakfast in the mess halls, a flight simulator ride, and a tour of the ship – and a non-alcoholic toast at midnight.
The second option – the more casual experience – is the enjoyment of a pleasant and remarkably inexpensive New Year’s Eve, out partying (particularly when you see the price tag on the upscale parties you’ll see elsewhere on this site). For a paltry $8.00/person, you can board the battleship and watch the fireworks from a great seat – the decks of the most decorated battleship of the U.S. Navy. You can buy food, a la carte, and there will be a cash bar available, plus prizes and music.
The battleship will officially open for visitors at 4:00 PM, for the 6:00 PM fireworks, and at 10:00 PM for the midnight fireworks, that officially ring in 2011…
