Saturday, September 25, 2010 - College Day on the Parkway - Free Admission to All Benjamin Franklin Parkway Museums, With Valid College ID

Saturday, September 25, 2010 is the annual College Day on the Parkway. All of the cultural institutions on the Parkway Museums District are offering free admission to any college student with a valid student ID.

The Museums are offering free admission from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Also, a free shuttle bus will be traveling in a loop, between all of the institutions listed below, from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. (We don't know why the buses stop at 4:00 PM, and not 5:00 PM.)

Of course, you can also make use of the inexpensive Phlash Trolley, which costs only $2.00 per ride, or $5.00 for an all-day pass.

Participating Institutions

The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, the Franklin Institute, the Academy of Natural Sciences, Eastern State Penitentiary (Note: Eastern State Pen is not located on the Parkway, but is participating.)

Traveling to the Parkway Museums District

Taking the Purple Phlash Trolley - May 1 to October 31

The best way of traveling to the Parkway Museums District, is the purple Phlash Trolley. During the six months in which it operates - from May 1 to October 31 - the Phlash offers service from everywhere else in the Center City District, directly up the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Its service runs in a loop from Philadelphia City Hall at Broad and Market Streets, up to 26th Street and the Ben Franklin Parkway, the location of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rocky Steps and Rocky Statue. Although it is not located in the Parkway Museums District, it is only a short walk from the Art Museum to the Gothic turrets of Eastern State Penitentiary, an early 19th-century building which is open for tours, resembling a medieval castle.
