Traveling to the Parkway Museums District
Taking the Purple Phlash Trolley - May 1 to October 31
The best way of traveling to the Parkway Museums District, is the purple Phlash Trolley. During the six months in which it operates - from May 1 to October 31 - the Phlash offers service from everywhere else in the Center City District, directly up the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Its service runs in a loop from Philadelphia City Hall at Broad and Market Streets, up to 26th Street and the Ben Franklin Parkway, the location of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rocky Steps and Rocky Statue. Although it is not located in the Parkway Museums District, it is only a short walk from the Art Museum to the Gothic turrets of Eastern State Penitentiary, an early 19th-century building which is open for tours, resembling a medieval castle.
