RECOMMENDED - Saturday, November 5 - Sunday, November 6 - The 30th Annual Re-Enactment of General George Washington's 1777 Revolutionary War Army Encampment, at Historic Hope Lodge in Whitemarsh, Suburban Montgomery County

We highly recommend, at this ghostly time of year, the Re-enactment of Washington's Continental Army encampment, in Whitemarsh, in suburban Montgomery County. It re-enacts the six-week period - from November 2, 1777, to December 11, 1777 - when Washington's army was encamped in Whitemarsh, while the British were occupying Philadelphia.

The Americans face off against British skirmishers, invading from occupied Germantown and Philadelphia. Hope Lodge is a preserved, 18th-century home, that served as an army hospital during the encampment. Tours of the mansion will be available.

It's great family entertainment, especially for the price. Adults are $6, seniors $4, children 6-17, $4, under 6, free; a family carload, a flat $20. Food is available, as well as military and craft demonstrations. The festivities take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, both Saturday and Sunday.

Hope Lodge is located at 553 South Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, PA 19034. It is extremely convenient to the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Fort Washington exit, as it is only several minutes away, down Bethlehem Pike.

Schedule of Whitemarsh Encampment 2010 Events and Activities

Skirmishes - (Note: These are the really cool parts, so make sure you don't miss them. The American and British troops take the field against each other behind Hope Lodge, and demonstrate 18th century maneuvers and combat.)

Saturday, November 5 - 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM
Sunday, November 6 - 2:00 PM

Revolutionary War Era Church Service in Formal Garden - Sunday only, 10:15 AM

Throughout both days-

There will be military drills and tactical demonstrations, in both the American and British camps, consisting of white tents around the property. Self-guided tours of the Hope Lodge Mansion will be available all day, except during Skirmishes (they don't want anyone to miss the Skirmishes, while visiting the Mansion).
