Independence Seaport Museum - the Maritime Past of the Port of Philadelphia

Independence Seaport Museum

The USS Olympia - a battle cruiser - and the USS Becuna - a submarine - at Independence Seaport Museum, Penn's Landing. For a better view of these historic ships, just click directly on the photo, to enlarge it.
This fine photo is courtesy of Ericka Clouther - thanks. Originally published on Flickr - attribution code below...

In addition to Independence Seaport Museum itself, you can also tour two historic Navy ships- the cruiser USS Olympia and the submarine USS Becuna ...

While this page is still under construction, please check back, as eventually, there will be a comprehensive guide. But in the meantime, hopefully the following information will be helpful to you.

Getting to Independence Seaport Museum

It is easily accessible at Penn's Landing. Relatively speaking, and particularly on the weekends, driving to attractions at Penn's Landing, is more favorable than it is for the more densely packed neighborhoods of Old City, South Street, and the Ben Franklin Parkway District. You may be able to find parking on the street, or in a lot.

You can also use SEPTA. If you're traveling via SEPTA Regional Rail, you can disembark at Market East Station, and either walk, or transfer to the Blue Line, exiting at its 2nd Street station, which places you at 2nd and Market Streets.

The official Independence Seaport Museum web site is the best resource, for planning your visit - in particular, its "Plan a Visit" page.

Hours of Operation and Prices for Admission

Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 and over, $7 for children/students/military. If you are a member of AAA, or WHYY, it's a dollar off.

Independence Seaport Museum also offers Pay What You Wish on Sundays, from 10 AM to 12 noon - i.e., your donation is voluntary, and of whatever amount you choose.
