The Mütter Museum Collection of Outlandish Oddities, Morbid Medical Memorabilia, and Eerie Education Is Open Every Day in October – And Its 4th Annual Day of the Dead Celebration, on October 29, 2011
Philadelphia's unique museum of medicine and medical history - The Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia - can always be relied upon, for inducing creepiness year-round, but it is particularly well-suited for October. Open every day in October 2011, the collection of skulls, organs, and other remains is the legacy of Philadelphia's long history of medical research and education.
(Note: The Mütter Museum - although highly educational - is not for the squeamish, and parents should use their discretion in considering whether to bring their children.)
And, all day -10:00AM – 5:00PM - on Saturday, October 29, the Mütter Museum will host its 4th Annual Day of the Dead Festival, the traditional Mexican festival, an eclectic celebration that merges elements of Mesoamerican culture, with European Halloween themes, both of which involve honoring the deceased. Admission to daytime events is free with Mütter Museum admission; the evening performances require both registration and an additional fee.
Complete information and the full schedule of events - as well as all of the (literally) gory details - can be found at the Mütter Museum calendar of events - just scroll down to October 29, for complete information.
